The info I found here led me to purchase the Sager NP9377/Clevo P377SM-A. Absolutely love the machine. Absolutely love the machine. Today I managed to create a problem for myself: I was looking for a good way to lower CPU temps for daily use and generally fiddle a bit with the bios. Note for download Newer version of BIOS includes feature and bug fix of all the previous versions. Unless specified in description or readme file, you just need to download and upgrade to the latest version.

Links. Hello all, I received my NP8657-S yesterday from Sagernotebook.com Subtotal $1579.00 Recycling Fee $4.00 Shipping Cost $0.00 Estimated Tax 9% (California) $142.11 Total $1725.11!#! I just bought the laptop myself today cause after looking at every laptop this seemed like the best 970m laptop for me, but even so I'm still a bit. Nervous about it lol. I even experienced some intense apprehension after buying it.
I'm used to not spending more than $1000 on pretty much anything, so this was quite the leap for me. How's the cooling and noise?. How are the power options? Do you think there are ways of making this run really quiet and cool for when I'm on the go? I'm talking about like even turning off the 970m grahpics card if necessary.
Does it feel heavy? My laptop by itself is about 5.25 lbs and to me that's tolerable. How's G-Synce? Was it worth that extra $80?. Any regrets? I'd say for a gaming laptop, this is built like a champ.
The graphics card is surprisingly cool, the noise is not too bad even while playing games (especially if you have a headset). The biggest drawback is if you want to stream games. Not because the laptop can't handle it, but your mic will probably pic up the fan noise. The weight is also kind of a bummer not gonna lie.
The laptop it self is fine compared to my previous laptop but unfortunately the power adapter is bulky. That's pretty much it lol. I've been able to run just about every game at max fps and high settings.
EDIT: oh and i also prefer my previous laptops track pad but you get used to it. Idle on my lap, I'm seeing about 35-38 degrees celsius. I can feel the fans kick in during intense gameplay, but I have yet to actually HEAR them. Take this with a grain of salt; my hearing is not the greatest, nor have I really paid close attention. Sager included a piece of software by the name of ', which gives you four major Power Options (Quiet, Power Saving, Performance, and Entertainment). When in Quiet, Power Saving and Entertainment modes, I see the CPU lowest itself down to about 800MHz (0.8GHz) under no load.
I'm going to assume this would be stupid beneficial when it comes to battery life. Also, in regards to disabling the 970m and just running off of the Skylake iGPU, I don't see that being a dedicated option (the ControlCenter has a option), but I'm going to assume you're able to fully disable the 970m in the BIOS, if you so desire. On my lap, this doesn't feel terribly heavy.
I believe the specifications they have listed show it as 5.5lbs with the battery; it feels like it weighs less, but again, take that with a grain of salt. From what I understand, G-SYNC benefits you in a scenario where you have an average frame rate below 60. For the time being, I haven't noticed its benefits, but as time goes on, I'm sure I will. I guess I don't really know what to look for currently either.
That being said, the extra $80 was worth it for the IPS panel rather than the TN panel, purely for the visual benefit. $1750 is a little steep for something I'm probably only going to use a few dozen times a year, but it's not like it's going to break the bank. I guess that depends on a person-to-person basis. Other than price, no, I have no regrets. I love computer technology, and I typically find myself purchasing the latest & greatest. I was telling someone else earlier before I received it: the only thing I didn't like about the purchase of this notebook was dealing with Sager directly.
Their email to me was kind of sketchy, and I was forced to have a multi-person phone call with my bank and their account manager to verify my billing and shipping information before they even ATTEMPTED to push payment through. Nah, I did not get the extended warranty; if something is going to die, I can replace it myself. I will be using this machine mainly for travel gaming; neither the 970m or 980m are capable of pushing enough performance to a 3820x2160 resolution in a gaming scenario (imo) (playable framerate of at least ). If I were using the machine for video production/photo edits, or something where I actually needed the screen real estate, I would have gone for the 4K without a second thought, but in a purely gaming perspective, 1080p is still perfectly fine. 2560x1440 would have been perfect, but it seems most laptop manufacturers are ignoring 1440p. I didn't want to break the $2,000 barrier for something I'm only going to be using a few dozen times a year. Though, now that you mention it, the has a base price of $1,899.00 on Sagernotebook, so maybe the extra few hundred might have been worth it.
(Sager has a really good return policy; I'll mull it over in my head if I want to return this for a slightly better machine. It'll really depend if I want to spend the extra few hundred or not. I hadn't really even considered it, in all honesty.). No worries, dude. I was in the same boat when I made this purchase; there are very few (if any at all) reviews for this specific model.
Like I was telling someone else: the only issue I had with Sager via the purchase was their need to have me on a three-way phone call with my bank to verify both my Shipping and Billing information (I guess because they're different?). Other then that, everything went smoothly. I was going to order from Xotic because it was like, $200 cheaper, but I decided to go directly with Sager. When I said 'it doesn't perform was well as I was hoping', it just means that I'm biased in regards to hardware performance these days. 90% of my experience with gaming PCs is with custom built desktops I put together, so having laptop hardware at my fingertips from 2015 was great! I was just hoping the hardware gap between desktops and laptops are smaller, but meh.
Water under the bridge; this is still a fantastic machine. Yeah, I chose the 15' version purely for portability. 17.3' is just massive. Not sure I'd want to carry around that all the time. So I'm considering buying the NP8657-S as a switch away from a desktop beast with a hexcore 1st gen i7 x990 at 3.47ghz with two GTX 580's in SLI mode. Guessing I'm going to see some boost in performance, although perhaps not a ton. Do you have any regrets about this system?
I was also considering the NP8640-S (the 14' model) but I can only get it with a 5400 RPM 1TB storage drive from Xotic vs. The 7200 for the NP8657-S. However it is a smaller size, and more than a pound lighter (not sure how that impacts cooling or noise).
Hello this post is a bit old, so don't know if you'll personally answer this, but do you think the thermal compound is worth it? Does it really reduce heat by that much? Also, I was looking at this laptop as a college laptop. Do you personally think that it's light enough (don't know how heavy 5.5 pounds is exactly) and does it have enough battery life to type notes and research off of a plug. If you do answer these questions, that's amazing and thanks for your review, i've been looking for one on this specific model for months.
Update: I scrolled through the comments, and noticed that you said you got around 4.5 - 5.5 hours of battery? I just wanted to clarify is this continuous browsing? Or is it i browsed for an hour, put it to sleep, woke it up, etc. Cause xotic states that is has 2+ hours of battery. So i just wanted to clarify.
Thanks again.

Any suggestions? On the bottom of your system there will be a small colourful rectangular sticker that says “Windows 10 Pro for OEM software” I would suggest taking a picture of it with your phone or digital camera.
After you have a picture of it, from the standard windows desktop, Right click on the start button, now referred to as the flag, and select system. On the left hand side you will see “activate windows” 4. Click on it and then select “change product key” 5.
Type in the product key that you just took a picture of (be careful 8’s and B’s look very similar) 6. Then press next and you should activate without issue.
